CAR SECURITY SYSTEM 'LOCKDOWN®'
As vehicle technology advances, especially in electronics, so has the dedicated thief in their approach towards targeting and stealing your valuable car. Cloning, jamming even grabbers of key code devices are now cheaply and widely available to all. Joy riders on a wet, late night walk home may be foiled and walk on, but not professional criminals and gangs stealing vehicles to order! These are organised and dedicated thieves, successful at their chosen line of employment and well aware of any alarm units – pin-pointing each fittings weak points and location, including trackers and can disarm or override them within seconds.
These are the very same alarms and trackers you rely on; being activated by the vehicle key or by ignition switch, as are manufacturer’s passive immobilisers. While at the other end of the scenario, with cuts to Police forces there has already been numerous instances where the police were forced to prioritise, failing to recover a stolen vehicle even when they had the last known location via a tracker, this is only going to get worse.
Insurance companies may offer small premium discounts, or dependant on retail price demand sophisticated security devices, such as Cat 1 alarms and/or tracking devices to be fitted. But they too, now face unprecedented claims for ‘stolen by unknown means’ or in other words electronic theft! It wasn’t long ago when thieves needed to break into the owner’s home to steal those all-important vehicle keys, enabling them to circumnavigate the vehicles immobiliser security – but this is no longer the case.
More than 95% of vehicles stolen today use the key or electronic theft, this means if your immobiliser, alarm or tracker is armed and disarmed using the vehicle key or ignition, you have less than a 5% chance of your alarm activating or giving a theft alert. Therefore, today a totally new approach is required, hence LockDown® a new generation of vehicle security. Fully TUV accredited, it’s an integrated three in one system – comprising engine immobiliser, car alarm and tracking system, coming as standard with Outsmart the Thief’s trademark features ‘LockDown®’ and ‘SafeStop™’.
LockDown® is a bespoke car security system, manufactured exclusively for Outsmart the Thief Ltd by world-renowned Italian specialist company Gemini Technologies. Comprising of a small single unit, modest wiring loom combined with siren, two remote activation fobs and dash mounted dongle-park. LockDown® can be fitted to the majority of cars or vans regardless of make; operating on a multiplex of vehicle platforms using analogue and digital signals. It even monitors the battery and alerts when tampered with, and has its own back-up battery built-in.
Tracking systems in cars were only successful in the past because the thief didn't expect one to be fitted. Now they do, and if found and ripped out, the vehicle could be long gone – but not so with our LockDown® unit. If found, wiring cut or even tampered with, say via the OBD port (vehicle on-board diagnostics) the unit recognises that it’s being targeted and attacked. The control centre is alerted, and the systems fail safe mode within the software prevents the vehicles engine from starting. The targeted vehicle maybe damaged or wounded - but NOT stolen!
If for any reason the alarm is sounded – say you forgot to disarm before unlocking, then as for any alert the control centre will telephone a stored mobile/home telephone number to advise you of the alert. They will also tell you which of the circuits has activated the alarm.
Tracking is available 24/7 across Europe and beyond, the unit reporting and storing its last location when parked, or reporting every four seconds whilst on the move. Unauthorised entry, of course triggers the alarm along with the monitoring centre, who even know the point of attack.
There are also two ‘intelligent’ self-levelling tilt sensors protecting the car, which will detect any movement along or across the vehicle. This will send an alert if the car is tilted for any reason. Our attention to detail is revealed when arming the system - using either of the two supplied rolling-coded key fobs, the lights flash twice for ON and three times for OFF – with no audible sound.
Another useful feature is the ability to incorporate additional wireless PIR movement detector or a wireless door contacts. This could be used for instance to alarm your garage door with the car safely inside, or addition of a movement detector inside the garage and linking this to your vehicle security system. Then as soon as the garage doors are opened or movement is detected within, your car alarm will sound sending an alert to the monitoring centre who will in turn telephone you. At this point the system also automatically immobilises the engine – can the competitors system provide this?
Outsmart the Thief Ltd have a dedicated nationwide LockDown® fitting team, who can install to your car or van at your home address by appointment. A growing network of select dealerships can now also arrange fitment of LockDown®, giving you peace of mind in this new wave of security. The whole system is also transferable from customer to new owner or if required at a later date from one vehicle to another.
Should the thief ever manage to steal your car, say by using the original vehicle keys or under duress then a command can be sent to render the engine ‘dead’ upon noting zero movement with the ignition turned off, also setting off the alarm siren and lights flashing. Then our UK Monitoring Centre team will contact you and follow strict procedures to recover the vehicle if it is moved.
LockDown® is monitored 24-hours, 365 days a year, and is tracked to provide a precise location immediately the car alarm is triggered.
